DIMAPUR: Union Minister Devusinh Chauhan said on Saturday that the Center is exploring new technologies to overcome geographic barrier challenges in the northeastern states to strengthen telecommunications services in the region.
Chauhan, the minister of state for communications, said the government wanted to integrate all villages into the telecommunications network.
“A lot of work has already been done in this area. The implementation of the grid extension program, which has been delayed due to Covid-19, will now be accelerated.
“Providing telecommunications services in the northeastern states is a challenge due to the geographic barrier. We are exploring new technologies and innovations to solve this problem, ”said the Minister.
Speaking to officials from Nagaland Post and Telecommunications Departments in Chumoukedima in Dimapur District, he said there was a paradigm shift towards online use due to the pandemic, as all sectors now depend on the Internet to run their operations.
Development of the region has been a priority for Narendra Modi’s government, he said.
“Prime Minister Modi has developed a policy for Union ministers to travel to northeastern states to bring government services to people’s doorsteps,” Chauhan said.
On his first visit to the state, he praised the Nagaland government for improving communications infrastructure and said it had the highest teledensity among the northeastern states.
“There is no shortage of funds to strengthen the telecommunications sector. The coverage of the telecommunications network will be improved in the state and also in the northeast region,” Chauhan said.
The minister also congratulated officials on World Post Day on Saturday.
The State Director of Information and Communication Technologies, Mmhonlumo Kikon, urged the minister to improve tele-connectivity and coverage of mobile services in rural areas.
