Five events throughout the day on Tuesday, September 20 will provide students with diverse interests the opportunity to meet employers looking to fill internships and job openings.
From freshmen to seniors, all Elon University students are invited to attend the Connect to Your Future event on Tuesday, September 20. Students will have the chance to connect with potential employers, research internship opportunities, and develop networking skills.
“It created an authentic atmosphere where students felt like they could be themselves,” says Kristin Walker, associate director of employer experience and technology at the Student Professional Development Center (SPDC). “Everyone just wants to talk to each other and make a good connection.”
Walker explained that the day will feature five events. The first will be hiring initiatives for underrepresented students, followed by three meet-and-greet opportunities for communications, business and STEM students. The final event will be open to all Elon students, including those just looking to network and engage with employers.
“We’ll also have light collars,” said SPDC director Brooke Buffington. “They act as visual identifiers. A freshman might wear one that says “networking,” while a senior might wear one that says “looking for a job.” All in all, this is an inviting, casual and fun networking time for students to connect with employers. »
Buffington and Walker’s work through the SPDC’s Employer Relations and Cooperation team focuses on employer relations and analysis of the ever-changing labor market, and how they relate to Elon’s student career goals. Previous Connect to Your Future events have produced high achievement scores and helped students achieve all of their goals, from securing an internship to securing a stable position in their chosen field. .
Employers who will be present include Wells Fargo, ESPN, Ernst & Young and Volvo. Last spring marked Elon’s first Connect to Your Future event, and many of the same employers are returning to meet with a new group of Elon students to provide information, resources, and job opportunities and internships.
The day will kick off with the Diversity and Inclusion Networking Event (DINE) at the LaRose Student Commons from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Meetings for communications, business, and STEM students will all take place from 3 p.m. 30 to 5 p.m. business students will hang out at the Koury Business Center, communications students will connect with employers in the Snow Family Grand Atrium and Schar Hall, while STEM students will attend their event in the Hunt Atrium at Founders Hall.
The final networking event, [email protected], will take place in McKinnon Hall at the Mosley Center from 6-7:30 p.m.
Although there is no set dress code, students are encouraged to wear Elon clothing. All who can attend are welcome.
